Protected Areas in the Yukon
The future of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge affects us all!
|
The Yukon government has suspended the Yukon Protected Areas Strategy
|
|
even though a strong majority of Yukoners support the creation of more protected areas. |
|
Take Action!
During the past year, more than 1200 letters have been sent by Yukoners and people from across Canada to the Yukon Government expressing disappointment over the discontinuation of the Yukon Protected Areas Strategy.
Thank you!
Now it is important to keep writing and letting them know Yukoners wanted protected areas and the ways and means to create them exist, so lets keep moving forward!
Read A Way Forward
A Way Forward is a hopeful, positive document that outlines how years of consultation, experience and knowledge from the original and highly regarded protected areas strategy don't need to go to waste, but can be put together with existing tools like:
- Land Use Planning
- Habitat Protection Areas
- Special Management Areas, and
- Forest Management Planning
to complete a network of protected areas in the Yukon now.
Write
Express your support for protected areas and the use of existing tools to complete a network of protected areas in the Yukon beginning right away. Request that the Yukon honour its commitments to its citizens and the rest of Canada, and move forward with the completion of a network of protected areas.
