Yukon issues interim protection for entire Peel Watershed

This is a good moment for everyone who has expressed their desire to see the Peel Watershed protected! The Yukon Government has issued interim protection for the entire Peel Watershed in the form of a one-year withdrawal from mineral staking and for the issuance of further subsurface rights to oil & gas and coal. Congratulations to everyone who has voiced their support for protection in the Peel Watershed and who has helped to build our coalition to protect the Peel! There is still much work to be done before a final land use plan is accepted and implemented, but this is a major landmark along the way. The Yukon Government's press release is linked below.

With best regards and appreciation to all,

Mike Dehn, Executive Director
CPAWS-Yukon
Whitehorse
