New CPAWS-Yukon Executive Director Brings Wealth of Conservation Experience to the Yukon

Jim Pojar, CPAWS Yukon Executive Director

Dr. Jim Pojar

February 2, 2004 – Whitehorse – CPAWS-Yukon is pleased to announce that Dr. Jim Pojar has joined our conservation team as the new Executive Director. Dr. Pojar brings a very strong background in conservation science and forest ecology, and he also has broad experience in land and resource use planning, protected area establishment, education and community NGO work.

Many of you will know Jim Pojar as a co-author of popular and authoritative guide-books to the plants of the western boreal forest, aspen parklands, and coastal ecosystems. During his 25 years as a research scientist with the BC Forest Service, he developed a national and international reputation in forest ecology, but is also a well-regarded naturalist with a passion for boreal landscapes. During his work with the British Columbia government, Dr. Pojar participated in numerous regional land use planning projects, as well as the implementation of the BC protected areas strategy.

Jim has been involved with the Spatsizi Association for Biological Research, Northwest Institute for Bioregional Studies, Public Service Employees for Environmental Ethics (president), Bulkley Valley Centre for Research and Management (president), and TLC, The Land Conservancy of BC. Jim is a leader and an advocate for wilderness.

We welcome Jim and his wife Rosamund to the Yukon and know that their talents will be a great asset to the Yukon, our CPAWS-Yukon chapter and national boreal forest conservation work.

Former Executive Director Juri Peepre will continue to assist CPAWS-Yukon on a variety of conservation initiatives including the Three Rivers Project and ongoing protected area work.
